SUMMARY:

Mental health is an essential aspect to be considered within a holistic vision that encompasses
the human being in an integral way in all stages of life. When it comes to women during
pregnancy, observation and attention to psychological aspects are even more relevant. Thus,
the present study aims to bring a new perspective to mental health care for pregnant women
during prenatal care, through the creation and validation of a specific instrument, called the
Prenatal Anxiety Assessment Scale. The research, therefore, consists of a methodological study
with a psychometric approach. The study will initially take place in a virtual environment, with
the selection of a committee of 5 to 12 evaluators (expert judges in an area related to the topic)
to participate in the research in the validation stage through online forms. Subsequently, once
a new version of the instrument has been approved, the pre-test will be carried out with a sample
of 30 to 40 pregnant women. Thus, the general objective is to construct and validate the Prenatal
Anxiety Assessment Scale. The specific objectives are to demonstrate the validity of the content
of the Prenatal Anxiety Assessment Scale, using anxiety as a construct, and to verify the
reliability of the Prenatal Anxiety Assessment Scale. The validation stage with the judges was
concluded, and invitations were sent to 23 professionals, of whom 11 agreed to participate. In
the first stage, a preliminary instrument composed of six domains and 34 items was submitted
for analysis, considering the analysis of clarity and representativeness. After the evaluation of
the domains, 100% agreement was calculated for all. Regarding the items, in the item clarity,
17 items received 100%, 15 items received 90.9% and 2 items received 81.8%. Regarding
representativeness, 27 items received 100%, 5 items received 90.9% and 2 items received
81.8%. Therefore, all items received at least 81.8% agreement regarding clarity and
representativeness, and the minimum percentage required would be 70%. Thus, after this initial
evaluation stage, the instrument consisted of 33 items, with 12 items being changed and one
item being excluded. In the reevaluation stage, of the total of 33 items, 32 received 100% in the
Content Validity Index (CVI) for clarity, and only item number 22 received a CVI for clarity
of 83.33%. As for representativeness, all 33 items received a CVI of 100%. In this second stage,
the acceptable agreement rate should be higher than 0.78 and preferably higher than 0.90.
Therefore, all items were approved without the need for modification or exclusion. Finally, the
quantitative evaluation, as well as the comments reported by the evaluators, demonstrated the
relevance of the proposal for developing the instrument, as well as its suitability for the intended
objective.
