Snakebite is currently included in the group of epidemics of concern for public health.
The municipality of Macapá is an area prone to these accidents and care for victims. It
is located in the Amazon region, has several urbanized areas with garbage dumps that
provide food and shelter for snakes, and its geography facilitates access for riverside
communities seeking medical care. The objective is to describe the epidemiological
profile, clinical outcome, and dynamics of care for victims of snakebite accidents
treated at the emergency hospital in Macapá-Amapá. Methodology: descriptive, cross-
sectional, retrospective, and epidemiological study, based on hospital records of
patients treated at the Oswaldo Cruz Hospital from 2019 to 2023 in the city of Macapá
and Sinan records. Results: In 5 years of analysis, 1,646 reported cases of accidents
were recorded, with the Bothrops genus accounting for the majority, 1,296 cases,
78.74%, and the age group between 20 and 29 years. The study also showed that the
majority were men, 77.16%, and mixed race, 62.77%, living in the capital Macapá,
51.16%, and in rural areas, 44.29%. The clinical outcome was cure, with only four
deaths during the study period, with a fatality rate of 0.003%.
